Flexus™ Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Flexus™?
Flexus™ is a new product/brand by Reid™ Construction Systems NZ. Reid™ specializes in supplying lifting and reinforcing systems for the precast concrete industry.
What can Flexus™ ‘Bendable’ Concrete be used for?
Flexus™ can now be used in situations where traditional thick and heavy precast concrete is just not possible.
As Flexus™ requires no steel reinforcing, the weight and thickness of many Flexus™ cast or sprayed elements can quite often be placed into position by hand.
What is the difference between Flexus™ and ordinary concrete?
The specially formulated Flexus™ Engineered Cementitious Composite mix design, with the addition of the patented PVA Fibres, eliminates the need for steel reinforcing.
This innovative new concrete behaves like timber and steel but also provides all the benefits that concrete has to offer.
Flexus™ has a density slightly less than ordinary concrete; 2100kg/m3 compared to 2400kg/m3 respectively.
What components make up Flexus™?
Like previously mentioned Flexus™ is a specially formulated Engineered Cementitious Composite mix and is made up of Sand, Cement, Fly Ash, PVA Fibres and a few other special ingredients.
How does Flexus™ aim to improve building sustainably?
The Flexus™ matrix has a larger percentage of recycled Fly Ash content. Fly Ash is a by-product of coal fired power plants.
Recycling Fly Ash has two effects; it prevents the dumping of excess material into landfills and waterways, and reducing the demand for energy intensive cement production.
Reid™ Construction Systems are aware of the importance of sustainable building and continue to research the ways of minimising our impact on the environment.
